Have you ever felt nostalgic for something you didn’t experience? By recreating old photos as large, distorted, or vivid paintings, i’m examining scenes that feel familiar and memories that seem almost like my own. An image of a child at the pool evokes a feeling of longing even if you weren’t the child, even if you never went to that pool. I’m searching for my place in these moments, too; wondering how, if at all, I would have fit.
